She starts quick with no choking and runs good for about 5 seconds, then quits. Further cranking gives no sign of wanting to start. Go back in a week and she does the same thing. She has done this three weeks in a row. Today, I tried starting with the fuel valve off. She did the same thing, started quick and then quit in approximately 5 seconds, and then I could have run the battery down with no signs of starting. I would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Before fooling with the governor or any technical posssibilities I would start the tractor and and let itquit running. Try to restart the tractor using starting fluid. If it starts it is a fuel problem.

Larry..... ...seems to me from your description that your governor is responding and cutting your carb back. Thats about a 5 sec response. Clogged filters are minutes response time. Governor check, remove the carb rod and try and control it by hand. More proceedures are lined out in the I&T FO-4 manual..... ....Dell

my 9N would start, run about 1m 30 and then cut. I then ran it with a battery charger on boost and she would run for more than 1m 30. I then let her sit and started by itself, has run ever since. My only thought was a bad spot on the starter.

Or as stated in another post, fuel filter clogged. Try cranking the feed valve before checking the filters. The problem I had above, started after fuel filter changes.

Usually means fuel is blocked. Have you checked the 3 screens? DON TX

I forgot to include in my post the check I did today. I took the fuel line loose at the carb and there was a strong flow of gas. I then took the filter out at the elbow and it was as clean as a whistle. I'm wondering if the float could be so bad that it is flooding its self out after starting. Then, after setting for a while, the engine starts on the residual gas in the cylinders, then floods itself, shutting down and so badly flooded it won't even fire when cranked. Then after setting for a few days, does the same thing. Hope my theory isn't too wild.

there is a filter in the carb. after the elbow. Or the float is stuck in the up position but still letting gas seep in over a period of time. DON TX
