Just bought an 8n for use on the ranch. Anybody know where I can get a 12V conversion kit without ordering throught the mail. I live in Dallas area. Are there common dealer/stores for these parts?

Matthew,
I also am in the Dallas area (actually live in McKinney with some acreage in Celina) and have found a wealth of sources for N stuff, a couple of which are dedicated N and other old tractor part sources. Let me know where you are at and I can probably point you in a good direction.

Why quit at a crummy twelve volts. Get a couple of kits and convert that sucker to twenty four volts and watch that starter spin. You can do a good electrical tune up on a six volt system for fifty bucks or less--new two gauge or better cables, a new wiring harness, generator rebuild kit, make everything "clean brite and tite [per Dell]" and you won't get a twelve volt kit for twice that. If you need to run air conditioning, a tape deck, plug in your cell phone, or otherwise need twelve volts for some electrical load other than the ignition then go for it. Otherwise if it is broke fix it but if it ain't broke. .

Your mileage may vary

I am waiting for the 36 volt kit to come out..If you think 24 volts spins the starter fast, you aint seen nothing yet.. I am still working on the Liquid Nitrogen Cooling for the starter motor though. Will not need the engine then, the starter motor will run the tractor. I am thinking 6 RU-100 resistors in series for the coil ought to take care of that... Or I could hollow out my coil and get one of them 40 volt coils used in CD Ignitions maybe? Happy Motoring

I understand Zane is working on a forty eight volt kit to be out in the summer. Added advantages include that with all of that battery ballast there will be no need for liquid filled tires.

Well, he can always use the 12 volt Gel Cells.. I have 4 of them in series for 48 volts in my UPS... This would save on space...if not ballast...

Matthew, You didn't mention why you want to convert to 12 volt. If you need 12 volt for attachments that you intend to use go for it and do it right. If you want to convert to mask problems with the 6 volt you are just delaying having problems. Either system will work and keep working if properly maintained. 6 Volt or 12 volt do as Dell says, Keep evrything clean, bright and tight. Dave <*)))><

Matthew..... .....get on your telephone and start calling any tractor dealers, or NAPA, or farmer supply stores in the area. Tisco is the major 12 volt supplier to selling agents. Theres nuttin wrong with mail order eather.

Enquiring minds want to know WHY you want to convert to 12 volts?... "Cuz all yer buddies say to"?... Engine sounds like it ain't hardly turning over?... Ya wanna hang a couple of airplane landing lights onnna the hood so you can spot the deer? ...er...jack-a-lopes? ...er...snipes?

I'm a 12 volt advocate for the right reasons. That said, I haven't found the right reason to convert my eazy starting 6 volt 52 8N to 12 volts and I know how to do it right..... ..... Dell
