Hey all, I've been searching for a little while to upgrade my 8N to a tractor with live hydraulics. I know I could get the live thang for the 8n, but I seem to have caught the bug many others around here have where I need to buy another old Ford.

Anyway, here are a few choices that recently came up, I am awaiting photos on each before taking the trip to look at any of them. First choice is a pair of Jubilees (haven't checked serial #'s to verify they are Jubilees yet, but I will). Owner says 1 has a crack in the block which he just finished welding and needs to put all back together. Sheet metal supposed to be in good shape and tractor is supposed to run good. Overall 1st tractor sounds to be in poor-to-fair shape.

Second Jubilee from the same owner is supposed to be in great condition, runs great, looks great, but the hydraulics don't want to work. He says a professional looked at the rotary pump and it is in good shape, so the owner is not sure where the problem is. The owner says he would probably part with them for about $2000-2500 each.

Next option is an 851D with a fully hydraulic loader. Supposed to be in good running condition, but cosmetically needs some work. Owner is asking about $3300 for it.

Either option sounds good to me, just wondering what the rest of you think about the problems on those Jubilees. I may be able to get 2 tractors for a little more than the 851 by itself, but then again the 851 has the loader.

Opinions anyone??

Justin

851D problems spell aggavation to me. Two Jubilee's to make one? why hassle to make one tractor out of two with a lesser tractor if you are thinking about 800 series or newer? Settle for one decent strong tractor requiring minor work, and be happy that the little you may need to invest into it is just that; a little. Just my two cents. ANd it doesn't matter anhow what I think...you will know what the right thing to do when it is the right time to make a decision. After-all, there are millions of decent tractors out there...keep an eye out for one that you know doesn't require second guessing. That tractor, when you see it, will speak louder to you than what you have mentioned. 9N'er

Thanks to all the responses on this. I have all but written off the Jubilee combo unless the photos arrive and show them too good to pass up.

As for the 851D, I wrote the seller to let him know the tractor sounded like it needed a lot of work, but that I may be interested at a lower price. We'll see how that goes, but in the mean time I will continue searching.

Thanks again, Justin

As an update, I have now received more info on the 851D. The pictures show it to be in fair shape, definetly in need of cosmetic work. The owner states that the down cylinders on the loader need to be repacked and that the 3 point hydraulics don't seem to be working now even though the loader works fine. I'm still waiting for the photos on the Jubilees, but I'm starting to lean toward the 851 and fixing up just one tractor instead of two.

Hopefully for you he is not firm on his price. You may have some extensive repairs (costly). There are hundreds of thousands of tractors that were built and are in better shape. My humble opinion.

While I love my Jubilee, I would not hesitate on the 851D. Very stout little tractor. If it has Power Steering, even better. that is a very fair price. A friend of mine paid 4500 for an 851 gas with no loader.

You can buy solid, butt ugly tractors that are only cosmeticly deprived for that kind of money. To me a welded block has little value unless you are looking for future trouble. For me, value about $1000-$1200. Hydraulics don't work? Another $1000 to $1200. If you have a lot of time (and money)to work on tractors buy the fixer uppers. If you need a working tractor nnow and can use the loader, well...
My humble opinion.
