Why are the studs and nuts to bolt the intake and exhaust manifold to the the engine made of brass?

Brass nuts are used so if they do become hard to get off, the brass will strip out on the nut rather than the stud. Helps to keep from breaking a stud also.

The nuts are brass and the studs are steel. The brass nuts do not rust (oh i mean weld) themselves to the steel studs like steel nuts would do in that kind of enviornment(sp)).

Greg..... ...what Patrick said..... ....plus you can strip the brass thread eazier. Just run a cleaning die back down your manifold studs and your good to go to put NEW brass nuts on. which BTW are a strange size.....5/8 hex, 7/16 NF thread. These are available but ya gotta know about'em first..... ...Dell
