I have a working (no show horse)51 8N. It has what I am told is a Henry Pipe Loader. The hydraulic pump was driven by a 12 splined shaft. That shaft ran between the front of the crank and the pump which is mounted on the tractor front. The shaft should have been 7 7/8 inches long instead of 7 3/8. Because it was short it was able to moved and eventually stripped the splines off the shaft and out of the pump coupler.
Where might I find or have made, a shaft the proper length. The outside diameter of the spines is 1 inch. The coupler I need looks to be a total of 2 inches tall with an outside diameter of 1 1/4. The pump shaft is 7/8 in diameter. I sure hope this is understandable. Any assistance even moral support will be appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you all for the information. I believe I have what I need (information wise) to move ahead. I am surprised at the lack of 12 spine shafts available. Whoever put the loader on my tractor must have been superstitious. I wish I had a 13 spline shaft like everyone else.
Since I still have one decent end on my current shaft I will buy a 13 spine shaft, a 13 spline coupler and have the shaft welded. The current shaft is a have made deal so I don't think I'll have any issues other than making sure it's welded straight and true. If there are pearls of wisdom or advise out there for me please feel free to let them flow.
Again, I think everyone and anyone who contemplated, considered or commented. The wealth of help and experience at this web site is a great service to a novice like me.

Had the same problem some years ago. Fixed mine
by cutting the shaft in half and slipping a tube
over it leaving a space in the middle which effectively lengthened the shaft and welding both
ends. In my case there was no clearance problem.
This would have to be checked before doing the
fix.
Good luck
Jet

Tom,

If you have access to a fax machine, let me know and I'll fax you over a parts list (with pictures), that should help you out. gsmith@mvdsl.com

You might also try a drive shaft builder or 4X4 truck builder as they build splined custom shafts for trucks.

Tom, check with FNH. They might just have a source OR you could switch to the pulley, spline plate and shaft that was used on the Dearborn and Wagner loaders. That may be cheeper than having parts custom made. Hope that helps.
