Couple of questions, for removing the front axle and center king pin. The FO 4 manual shows a picture of the crank handle being used to remove the pin. If you do not have a crank handle what the next best tool? What all should I be looking at when removing that should be replaced and doing a complete rebuild on the front end. Thanks, Murray

Don't use the steel bushing as a replacement. They will wear out too soon . Order a OILLIGHT bronze bushing from N Complete. They just cost $4.74. Tom said that they are self lubricating, won't collect dirt, and will last longer than a factory steel bushing. Mike..... .....

Just did mine. Had to remove the center axle mount, then tried for three days with liquid wrench and 2lb.love taps (relatively speaking). Absolutely no budge. Got serious yesterday morn and clamped (handles toward the front of the axle assembly) a 1/2"x5" bar across the back of a large socket which was positioned against the rear of the pin. Then I let wail with a good swing on the 8lb sledge hammer and it came out in two or three wacks. Just be sure to level it up secure on wood blocks to support the strike and so you don't miss.Did'nt look as though pin had beed replaced to many times in past if at all.I quess rust can bind those things up pretty nasty.I have a question myself--How can the area be treated to avoid it getting all frozen up again with out using grease(which I'm sure would collect grit and crud.)

anti seize is like grease and will colect dirt. solid film lubricant is in aerosol and dries like paint. good luck

I like anti-sieze. Grease or oil is a big dirt collecting no-no.

there is a small puller that you can use in lieu
of a crank. there is some more info in the
archives. you can check with FNH on how they do
it.
