Put new points in the 47 2N. The first set were cheap, and would not adjust to a 0.015 gap.

Bought a another point set at the ford dealer. Put it all back together - no spark.

Do the points have to go back in with the rotor in the same postion it came out?

Help - what do I check next?

Hi Tim;

The rotor will only go on one way. did you remove the radiator to install the points or did you remove the distributor? if you can, make sure they are opening and closing. next make sure rotor and cap are on tight. make sure plugs wires are seated into the cap. then check the coil.

Regards
Bill

I'm a beginner. How do you check the coil? Just a continuity check between the spring on the bottom and the post on the top?

Yes, you could do that. Unfortunately that is not the failure mode of these coils. Usually they short out a few turns here and there...
The best thing is to replace it, if you suspect tht the coil is defective.
