Have any of you heard of a battery, that cranks the engine on 12 volts, then switches to 6 volts once the engine is started. One of my friends swears there is such a battery.

Yup - A while back I mused that there should be a way with two six volt batteries wired in series, to produce 12 volts for the accessories on an N while wiring them paralel to keep it a six volt charging and ignition system.

Someone told me about just what you mentioned. I believe JC whitney has them.
