In the drawing it says marker light goes in line from P1 to terminal block. On the marker lights I have, they are 1 wire with light screwed to grounded frame. What am I missing? This Alt. supposed to be one wire but it don't charge the way the drawing sent with it says to wire it. I did the touch the P1 to the Batt. connection to re-excite but no change.

You've got the wrong kind of socket for your bulb -- you need one that has two wires on it. But with a 1-wire alternator, you shouldn't need this part (wouldn't hurt either, if done right).

If it's supposed to be a 1-wire alternator and it doesn't charge, you may have a bad alternator. However, let's check a couple things first (some are pretty simple, but it's the simple things that often trip us up).

1) Is it a modified Delco (GM) alternator? If not, everything after this question gets real cloudy.

2) The BAT post on the back of the alternator is wired to the battery?

3) The negative post of the battery is wired to the frame of the tractor (negative ground)?

4) The tractor was running when you touched the wire from the BAT post to the P1 terminal? Did you try touching the P2 terminal? (the only 1-wire instruction sheet I've seen says either one should work but who knows)

5) Try running the tractor faster (run it up to full throttle once) and see if that makes a difference.

Hurk..... .if'n yer really using a 1-wire Alternator, AIN'T NO NEED or provision for idiot light. AND you just can't wire up a 3-wire alternator as a 1-wire alternator. Its the internal guts of the alternator that has to be changed to convert it from 3-wire to 1-wire.

And to answer your question about the clearance light, yer using the "wrong" type. It should not be one-side connected to ground type. Ya gotta connect P1 thru the idiot light to the ignition switch "on" terminal.

But that is all immaterial if'n yer really using a true 1-wire alternator.

ITS NOT a belt AND suspenders thing, its a belt OR suspenders thing.

Oh how a little knowledge is dangerous to the electrically challenged..... ....respectfully, Dell
