Saw several past posts regarding using a 1/2 Ohm 10 Watt Ceramic Resistor for a front mount 12V coil. I have been using the standard ballast resistor on my 12V coiled 2N. Having never operated another N for any length of time, I started wondering if I could increase HP by getting the correct resistor (not that I ever thought it was lacking). Went to Radio Shack, the only 1/2 ohm 10 watt resistors they had were the little silicone striped things. They had some of the ceramic block resistors, most were 10 watt, some 20 watt, but none less than 1 ohm. Had the guy look in their catalog. No dice. Do we need to start a petition to the Tandy Corp, or is their another avenue to find these things?

Johnny, higher wattage also won't hurtcha. Wattage is just the max. rating fer the part. Means it'll handle more "juice" before she glows red and dies.

Johnny, Very hard to get Ceramic (metal oxide)finish
at 10 Watts.

.51 Ohm 10 watt Wirewound (ratshack.COM)

Part # 900-1019 for .50 (cents)

Unless your plugs are fouling I would not change your Resistor. The MORE current = More OutPut Power is False (Plug Gap determines Arc Over)

The Primary current is on the "WASTE" (unwanted & unneeded) heat side of the equation, and more current, then required, does NOTHING but BAD Stuff.

Hope This Helps,

Phil, yer gonna love this, yer correct..... Dell

What I've been callin "1/2 ohm, 10 watts ceramic" is really a wire wound resistor encapsulated in ceramic. Sometime the ceramic is pale blue, pale pink, dirty white, shiny dark brown.

And the difference between 1/2 ohm and 0.51 ohm is accademic.

So Johnny..... .gettcha that RadioShack p/n #900-1019, that'll do the job..... ....Dell
