Howdy from South East Texas. I have a 50 model 8N and when I raise the Lfit arms, they come up with no problem but they jump about 1/8" all the way up even without any weight on them. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas are very well welcomed. Thankya very much.

When the N pump trembles on the way up it is usually because one or more of the valve springs are broken in the pump chambers that clost the valves. You can check this out by removing both inspection plates and then remove the retainer bolt that holds the valve covers in place. Pull the valves out one at the time and inspect the springs and the seats etc of the valves.

It is also posssible the one or more of the pistons and or bores has worn past tolerances and are not pumping. I would bet on the valves though first.

The oil is not what is causing it to tremble on the way up.

I was readen the archives and found on two seperate ocasions where a couple of fellers had more problems after they changed to M2C-134D. Would there be a big drawback if I just went back with the 85-90? Charles

Charles, you can use either.
Just make sure it it mineral oil, I think type 2.
The normal gear oil we use in the diffs and trans of trucks and cars of today is different and will cause more harm than good.
If you clean out the old junk, add a gallon of diesel or so to help wash it out, then out in the 134, I doubt you will have any problems.

Thanks John, I just got the tractor last weekend and I looked at the oil and it is very milky. I will change it this weekend. I have not had a chance to get a manual yet, will the oil be a 90w?

Well, I have been read'n this forum now for about since Christmas. My office gal's son plugged this link into our office computer as a Christmas present for me.
So on the topic of OIL, Let me try to explain it this way, My 9n's system has just been used to good and clean, good ole OIL! Back, during the war, when the 9N was manufactured, the oil was called, accord'n to the can, "gear oil". We just used it in every thing. I saved the CAN!

I'm sure others will shed some light.

Charles..... .....Ford/New Holland now recommends spec: M2C-134D hydro-tranny oil. 5 gals, 3 drains (drain the square diffy plug first, it pees with some accuracy innna bucket) 1 fill up by the tranny shifter. 'Course you can use the 60 yo 90wt mineral oil spec if'n ya can find it.

Check yer rubber boot around tranny shifter for tear. $3 cheep. Boil it in hot water to be able to streach it over everything.

Recommend you get an I&T FO-4 maintenance manual. Readily available at sponsors of this fine N-Board, tractor parts emporium, www.n-news.com (great implement archives), even Ford/New Holland fer peets stakes, $29 cheep, gettcha 1 and readitt..... .....Dell

Thankya very much Dell, I will be at my NewHolland dealer tomorrow and I will get some oil and the boot. Oh yeah the manual also. The ole fella I got the tractor from kept her under an old oak tree so thats probably where the water in the oil came from. She's got a new home now and a good roof over her head. Charles

Thankya John, Id probly just poured it on a stump. I just bought a blade and a pole for her yesterday and they both need some oil on them. this old feller gave em both to me for $100. Seems I went from no tractor at all and in a weeks time, I got all I need and spent $1,100.00 on all of it, this tractor stuff sure is fun and kinda cheap too. Charles

Hey Charles, I recommend that you save your old oil for awhile. Good stuff to put on outdoor equipment like implements!
