1950 8N That Won't Start

I just spent two months cleaning, repainting and new sheet metal on my 1950 8N. It looks great! After most of the work was done it started once (very hard to turnover) but now it wont start at all. It appears to be getting fuel to the carb and spark to the plugs but the plugs are dry. I did a quick compression check and all four cylinders read about 85. I also made sure the air cleaner was not clogged. I have owned it for about four years and have never had any major starting or running problems. I use the tractor for mowing about 3-4 acres with pull behind mowing deck. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback. I removed the valve covers and used the Marvel Oil. I then checked all electrical items and recharged the battery.
I also did a wet and dry compression check in two of the cylinders. They both read around 75 dry; one cylinder read about 82 wet while the other went to about 85-88 wet.

I finally got it to start but it continues to be a problem. One day it starts fine while other days it won't turn over at all. I tried starting fluid yesterday and got it to start. This was after I tried for several minutes without getting it to run. It may be time for a rebuild although I was hopping to get it through this summer's mowing season. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

Loren..... ...with compression of 85 psi and having set for a while, theres a strong possiblity of "sticky" intake valves. Do an "archive" search. or....

Take you valve covers off from behind yer manifold and scrub'em with a toothbrush and solvent of your choice. I kinda like Marvel Mystery Oil 'cuz I can pour the rest o'the can innna the crankcase oil and run the engine hot for about 10 hrs and then change the oil and filter.

Did you consider giving yer engine a shot of ether quick start while ya got the aircleaner off? Even with low compression, if'n yer sparkies are good, should getter goin'. But I'm bettin on sticky intake valves which quick start will help with too. All the usual safety precautions..... ..Dell

Seems that it has been sitting without running for quite some time. Are you sure that the battery is charged up?

Check all your fuel screens. Make sure you have good fuel. I burned out a starter on mine because of bad fuel. Those updraft carbs are pretty sensitive.
