just bought a 9N with new rears but fronts look like they are the original tires, typed in the search and saw one guy using motor cycle tires, laughed my butt off reading it but a real cheap way to get tires, most dealers have cheap tires used if not free because no one buys used tires for a cycle but they are more than suitable for a tractor, the question arose about weight of the tractor for the cycle tires, well they couldn't be any worse than the ones on my tractor that are rotted and split, the cycle tires are rated around 500 to 600 pounds each,1200 pounds, 9N front around 800, I raced for years, moto cross, bike weighed 250, I weighed 300 pounds, came off 10 to 15 foot jumps and I can't guess at what the weight was when the bike hit down but it had to be high, did this week after week and never blew or damaged a tire so I am going to get some free cycle tires for My 9N at the dealer he gives them away because they pay to get rid of them, plus it will look cool.never would have thought of it myself

I put knobby 4x19 motorcycle tires on my NAA a couple of years ago. As the machine is mostly mowing now a days, works just fine. Plus they kinda match the turf tires on the back. I still have the other ag tires and wheels to remount if I really need to. I bought the knobbies at a salvage store for 15 bucks apiece. Never thought about asking a cycle store for old ones. But they look like they will last quite a while. Makes the tractor even more international. Knobbies were made in Japan, the turf tires in Isreal.

If you don't plan on jumping the tractor over 10' high I would say that the motorcycle tires will be OK.

I have a 51 model TO 20 Ferguson that I have been runing cycle tires on for the past 35 years. I can't tell you how long they will last because I haven't had to replace them yet????? ?

Steve, I'll bet that your N won't throw roost quite the same as your bike did. I now that mine doesn't jump near as nice as my CR does. Cool idea about the tires I can't imagine how many of those suckers that I through away over the years. Should look pretty rad anyways.

I think it's a great Idea.
I like "non typical" stuff on these old tractors as long as it isn't something totally cobbled up.
I think it would look pretty cool with a set of nobbies on the front. And free to boot?
Go for it.

Steve, if you have ever wondered why front tractor tires have a high center rib, think about steering. On soft ground it works better. If you are using your tractor primarily on turf, the bike tires will work, you just need to use your brakes more to keep the front end from sliding and burning the grass. In my case, I'm not growing a golf course so I don't worry about a little scuffing with ribbed tires in front and farm lugs in back.
