I turned off the gas flow valve and removed the sediment bowl to clean it. After re-installing it, I noticed that it refilled with gas although the gas flow valve was still off. Is this normal? I figure that off is off, and no gas would flow from the tank. If I interpet the parts manual correctly, there is a screen and a gasket that fit between the glass bowl and the valve. I have neither and I wonder if that is my problem.

Does anyone know the part number for the NAPA rubber gasket?

My cork gasket is too large for the sediment bowl and it leaks like a sieve around the bowl too. NAPA sells a rubber neoprene gasket to fit these bowls and it works better than the old corky thingy.

Thanks gaspump. I need a gasket for my bowl( got it all sealed up with sealants now ). Does Napa's gasket happen to come with a screen?

and wouldn't you believe it. there IS a drip coming from the valve itself!! It filled up the bowl in 10 minutes! !! and it is fresh out of the box. I turned the screw to tighten it, hoping it would tighten the valve and stop the drip. NOOOPE! NOT NO.

Should I send it back??

I had the drip with my new one too, now that you mention it. And it WAS that cheap foreign junk, too. Took it apart and used lapping compound to mate the needle and seat. Never a problem after that. Have to make sure to clean all the lapping compound out before putting back together, can't imagine what kind of horrors that might cause..... .

Last summer I bought one from Q F&F. The size going into the tank was not right must have been metric. I rethreaded it and put it on. It didn't leak there but would not shut off. The package said it was the right one for my N. By then Q F&F was closed. Foriegn made junk. Then I got a good one from Don B.

You are right, OFF MEANS OFF. It should not refill. BTW, the gas line is on the other side of the valve, so it is not gas draining from the line. Silly question, but are you sure you turned it the right way? (Clockwise is off) If it worked before you removed the bowl I can't imagine why it would leak that badly now.....

Good question Chip. Yes, I am turning it in the correct direction. I cleaned the control knob and I can see the arrows on it. From the other responses it appears my problem is not unique. Anybody have any clues to the cause? I definitely need a gasket, but it must be the valve leaking.

Unless your fuel bowl assembly leaks like a sieve, the cork gasket is there. Perhaps it refilled from gas draining out of the fuel line into the bowl.

By the way, I have a new gasket in mine and it still leaks out a drip every two to three seconds. Very frustrating. Getting another new one soon.
