I recently remove my entire hydraulic pump on my 48 8n and disassembled it. I cleaned everything I could think of. I replaced all of the gaskets and fixed the cam follower pin. My question is why am I not getting the full 30" of travel out of the lifting arms. When the arms are at a complete rest they are about 3" off of the ground. When I raise them to the highest point they are only 23" off the ground. When I operate them it is smooth with no hesitation. Can you guys get me straightened out PLEASE.
Thanks Mark

Change your lever from draft control to position control, with lift operating run them up and down and check the heights. In draft control the lift arms will drop 3" lower than in position control and should raise to near the same. The setup is well outlined in the new FO-4. Keep your lift in position control when nothing is attached to keep the lifting rods from wearing on the axle housing.

I have a Ferguson but the same set up. My arms go down to around 3 inches off the ground and lift up till they jam tight on the chains at max height of around 28 inches or so. Never measured it befor. They should go down to about 3 inches tho. Maybe Dons arms that go from the lift arms to the Link assembly bars are to short? Not sure. Mark H.

My 51 8N lift arms at rest are @ 12" off of the ground. That would account for the difference. DON TX

I'm not that far along in my IT-FO4 shop manual yet. Hadn't had a reason to work on that part. I've spent all my time on the other end or in the seat. I do need to adjust and inspect one of these days. Did you not work with a manual? You got more guts than me. Sorry I can't help. Someone will. DON TX
