Hello,

My distributor was missing that little plate under the screw that allows you to scoot the dist. plate back and forth a bit. I got a new plate and centrifigal advance etc. Where would be a good place to start? Which itty bitty hash mark should I line up with to start??

Bill,

Since you have a 2N I assume you have a front mount distributor. The screw on the plate of my front mount is almost in the middle of the slot.

But why guess, you set the timing with the distributor on the bench. Off the top of my head, I don't remember exactly how to set it. Look in the F04 manual.

I set the points and all. My service manual says, more or less, don't touch this screw unless you have the advice of a Ford technician. Well, there aren't any.

What is this 1/4inch thing? Is this for front mounts or side mounts?

Thanks

It's for front mount. Most people use a 1/4" drill bit.

Here is the N Series page for front mount distributors including setting the timing.
