2N Hydraulic control question

The control lever to raise and lower the 3 point hitch won't stay down, I have to hold it down by hand. If I don't hold it, it'll lift completely up. Even with the tractor off, if I push the lever all the way down, it "springs" a third of the way back up as soon as I let go. Seems like I need to hang some weight on that handle to keep it down. Is this that lack of draft control problem which is solved by the purchase of one of those mysterious "Zane Thangs" or is it a symptom of some other problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

If you had the ZANE THANG you wouldn't have to worry about the touch control springing back up since with the device the friction clutch is disabled anyway.

What is wrong with yours it that the friction clutch disc needs to be tightened or replaced. It is a round cork disc under the round piece where the touch control attaches. It has a nut that you tighten to increase the tension on the friction clutch. Most of the time these things will not come off because they are made of aluminum and will glue themselves to the control shaft. It takes heat to move one when it is seized this way in order to replace the cork disc.

See the link below for a ZANE THANG

Thanks for the insight. Do you happen to know what the dimensions of this disk are, particularly the thickness? Ya think this something I can make out of gasket material, or will I have to try to locate one?

I bought a new one at Ford. It looks to be maybe 3/16" thick, maybe 1/4". The diameter is the same as the disc it rides against.

It is nothing but plain cork like the material you can get at an auto parts store.

Since the disc has a spring behind the nut for tension friction, I don't think that the thickness is impairative.

When you take the hand lever disc part off the shaft, It should have a keyway on the shaft. When you put it back on, just make sure the shaft is clean so it is free to slide easily.
