Went to the Cummins Tool Road show today and walked away with a 12V winch. Got it home and proceded to yoink a big pine snag from the woods behind my house.

I'd like to know how long I can run this gadget on my 2N's 12V battery (650 cca) before the bat runs out.

There is no amperage spec in the manual, but the winch is rated at 1 ton (dead weight) and 3 ton (rolling)

Who knows ?

Bert:

What do you think of that winch? I'm looking at getting one too. Can you get spare parts for it? What's its duty cycle?

Thanks
Doug

I don't know about the battery but you want to keep an eye on the temp of the winch. They are really designed for a low duty time and if you work it too hard without a rest it will meltdown on you.

Back when I was not quite as poor as I am now, I was known for getting my truck stuck on a regular basis. The big trouble is that mine was the most capable truck so when I was stuck I wasn't offered the same kind of help I was able to give. Two different times I had electric winches not get me out so when I finally got one, I bought a hydraulic unit that runs off of the power steering pump. I truely think that if I doubled the cable with a snatch block and the truck didn't move it would snap the cable. I only once had it in a situation where it kicked off the relief valve in the pump!

If I ever get to it, I was going to make a three point mount for it with a small pump run from the PTO.

I think that's # 27,958 on the to do list!

Good luck,
Ken

Cannot compute with the values given. Current draw of the electric motor will depend somewhat on the load it has to pull. Check your ammeter when pulling and multiply it by the voltage of the battery (This can vary somewhat, depending if it is charging, engine speed etc..)

The product of the voltage and current will give you wattage. The wattage capability that the charging system will produce will depend on the rating of the alternator and engine speed. Monitor you ammeter while pulling and that will give you an indication of what the system is capable of. Short discharging is of no consequence as the battery will make up the difference and not a concern since the device is used on an intermittent basis.

Do you have a 12-volt charging system? If so, how big is the alternator? Assuming the engine is running when you're winching, of course

leave the tractor running, to keep the alt. charging the battery, dont keep on the winch by that I meen drag for a wile few min, let it rest a few min. and so on, with the tractor running you will tell when it gets low the tractor will bog down kust take it easy and you could pull all day running the winch to long at one time with out letting the battery rest will burn of the connections before you run the battery down or so I have had it happen :) hope this helps
