It appears that the transmision oil is leaking out a cotter pin hole forward of the transmission case in the engine case clutch compartment...So is it the front oil seal?..does that mean spliting the trans from the engine to fix it?...tell me no....

I'm going to split the tractor at the trans to engine...can this job be done with a floor jack?
I tried looking in the archives and found some info but never could download the pictures.
I need some good advice on what equipment I need to split the tractor.

Thanks for the input...It's definately trans oil....so I guess it's the front seal in the transmission...So can I split the tractor at the transmission engine connection or do I have to first split the rear end from the transmission then the trans from the engine?...thanks

You should be able to change the seal spliting the engine from the transmission housing only. You shoud get a manual first, that way you have pictures of the seal and can see and read how to do it. Mark H.

zz..... ...you could do as some have, bailing wire a tunna fish can under the high tech oil drain cleaner (cotter key) and worry about it when theres enuff oil being drained every day to fill the tin can. OR you can split the tractor to reseal the engine crank seal which means dropping the oil pan which means disconnecting the front axle which means a whole lotta of trubble. How's yer engine oil pressure, if'n its low, might be seal and a whole lotta more stuff.

Or it could be the tranny front main seal.

Generally speaking, most old tractors leak oil, some more than others, and usually not much of a real problem except cosmetically. Its your time and dollar, whats it worth to you?..... ..Dell

I could tell you NO, but that would do no good! If it is Transmission Fluid not oil then it probly is a front seal on the transmission, if it is oil then it is probly a rear seal on the engine. Either way you haft to split it to repair it. Mark H.
