For what it's worth: I didn't grow up on a farm, I grew up in the suburbs. We have a long family history that had to do with farming, carepentry, and teaching. So, the suburbs and neighbor after neighbor after nieghbor were within 25 feet was foriegn to my family history, but did stunt my background and knowledge about the land and tractors and many things mechanical. the point is I don't know a lot about tractors and working the land. But, I do have gut feelings. I was at a Fair this weekend, and was able to crawl around a large Kubota tractor. WOW! it was big, and it had a powerful engine (i think)...and NEW! Then I put my hands on the sheet metal and components, and the first thoughts was...this thing will last 20 years at the most, and it was scaled way back in rugged componentry to cram and fit more on a ship and get em' to America. The friends I were with have a 6800 Kubota...and praised it. Then I said, how much!? and they said 19k. I said, my 60 year old 9N and 45 year old 850 with 50 year old Dearborn Loader 45 year old backhoe, all combined comes to less than 9k. And I said, they can do as much or more for half the price, they have history, and will go another 60-100 years. Well, he said more and more about Kubota's, and then in my mind I said to myself: I'm happy with what I got and wouldn't have anything more or less..." I am ok with these old Fords and it beats the heck out of the old wheelbarrow, snow shovel, and shovel. Seeing a bright orange Kubota is nice, but seeing a beat old 850 working away with a spanking new 9N next to it just turns a smile.
