1.Want to remove the studs in the block (head studs)and replace with bolts during rebuild. Does anyone have any good suggestions or experience that may lessen the likelyhood of breaking one off before I put the pipe wrench on them? They are tight-tight.
2.How is the oil pump pick up tube secured in the oil pump housing? The one on this 'ol engine came out and you can guess what it did to the rod bearings without oil. Is it silver solderd in, pressed in? Thanks in advance

Several years ago when I was building race car engines, we used to go to a fair amount of trouble and expense to put studs INTO the block and get rid of bolts. Ray has good advice, leave em alone. John

I think the stud and nut combination is an upgrade over bolts. I would leave them alone unless they are rusted badly or leaking. If leaking, remove and reseal the offending ones. Dr Zane has said that the pick up tube is silver soldered and should not be fixed but replace. I have sucessfully brazed a couple of them. fwiw, ray
