We have a tractor, reportedly a 2N, but with a high low range, and all the amenaties of the pre-war 9N, and the postwar 8N. Did another model exist? Any information would be helpfull.

Troy..... read what I wrote to Rick, just 6 posts down the N-Board..... ...Dell

Rick..... .N-Tractor engines are interchangeable and of course the s/n goes with the engine. Quick check: ONLY the 8N has a 4-speed tranny. ONLY 9N & 2N have a 3-speed tranny. ALL 2N engines s/n start with 9N. You might want to check the "archives" at the top of this very excellent N-Board..... .Dell

Bear in mind that over the last 60 some years, these tractors became old. Some were junked, some were patched up with the junked ones and some were just left to sit. Nowdays the value has risen to the point that the remainders of the junked ones are being assembled into runable units and sold as lawn mowers. Almost any combination can be created as demonstrated by the posted photos of big hub front-small hub rear units. Hey anybody ever seen one assembled as an 8N on one side and 2N on the other? HMMMMMm

Here's some places to check:
Click here for a quick history of Ford tractor models.

Click here for a year by year summary of model changes.

And finally, click here for info on auxilliary transmissions (you'll have to look for the right button to hit when you get there).

Hope this helps.
