I recently bought a 9n and the light switch and all the wires were cut and torn out. I would like to hook new ones up but I don't have a clue of what I would need or how to hook them up. Help.

The one thing I debated when installing lights was whether to wire the light switch upstream or downstream from the ignition switch. Finally decided to wire it upstream because the key switch is notoriously weak in these tractors and I didn't want to send any more juice through it than was necessary. Now I run the risk of forgetting to turn off the lights and draining the battery, but so far I've been smart enough to avoid that. Side benefit is I can use the lights to see if I need to shut down the tractor to fix something without leaving the keyswitch on and frying the points. Lots of "right" answers, just depends on what makes you happy. Just be sure your lights are well grounded. I ran a ground wire out the hollow mounting bolt and the lights started working a lot better.

If you have a three brush generator (one wire from the generator), and is 6 volt, here's what you need....

The wiring diagram found at the web site below was helpful when I recently did some wiring on my 2N.

Nice diagram!! You wouldn't happen to have the same kind of diagram for a Ford 8N - side mount distributor?

This discussion board has many references on installing tractor lights. The archives would be a good place to start.

Nseries.com has a good wiring diagram showing light hookups.

The F04 repair manual also has a very good wiring diagram. This manual is readily available at tractor supply companies and at Ford / New Holland dealers.
