I've developed a hydraulic leak coming from the base of the PTO control lever on the left inspection plate. What's behind there? A seal? O-ring? Gasket? The manual doesn't give a clue. Sounds like rain tomorrow so may pull the plate and stop the leak, just would like to know what I'm looking for. Thanks to all. Steve 8N 169302

Steve:

I don't know or sure, but isn't the oil/ fluid level normally BELOW the inspection plate? I've seen postings where it was stated that you can remove the inspection plate - and oil will only come out if the reservoir is over filled.

Take it for what its worth, maybe others can add more...

Steve,
I have an old parts book and it does not show any seal or gasket for the pto shifter shaft itself. The only seal shown is as was stated, the paper gasket for the inspection plate itself.
Wish i could help better.
Tom

There's a paper gasket that goes behind each inspection cover. 9N 4131 fits either side. The cover and shifter come right out. The dogleg of the shift lever rides between the two flanges on the shifter rail. Check the circumference of the shifter cover plate for cracks, burrs and distortion from being torqued too tight. I guess you could use a silicone bead to help seal it.

I agree. The only way I think you could be leaking out of the shifter lever is because of a crack in the lever housing. The hydraulic oil level at full is below the circular cover , and the shifter lever is even higher than that ! I suspicion that the oil is way over-full. As stated, there is a paper gasket that goes around the circumference of the shiter inspection cover. In order to replace that, you have to take off the floorboard, the clutch linkage, and loosen the brake pawl so the clutch lever can be swung out of the way. It aint rocket science.
