Jubilee Live and Live

Last weekend I stopped to look at a Jubilee for sale long the highway. It was nothing really special (rotted tires, Sherman). But then I noticed two levers on the left side under the seat where there is normally just the one PTO/hydraulics activation lever.

Just had to ask about it. It turns out that it converts the PTO to live by shifting the drive train out of gear somehow. Apparently, Jubes have live lifts, so this conversion gives you everything you need for "modern" conveniences.

The gizmo that does this looks pretty professional so I suppose it was not a homemade remedy. Anyway, I liked the idea.

The tractor, however was about $4500. Which seems high (esp, given the tires), but then that one option would mean a lot to the right person (like me).

Does anyone know who made the conversion and if they were popular and reliable?

I'm not going to buy it, so if you are interested, it's in central Iowa near Fort Dodge. I could probably figure out a contact for you if you are seriously interested.

Brent

Brent - (and others who may be interested in this gizmo).I agree with Dave M, If you want live pto go for a newer Ford with the factory installed version. This would give you reliability and parts availability. The N Newsletter did an article on this and a few of the "old timers" around here remember them. They are extremely rare, there are no parts available, and the reliability of the unit was iffy. As Dave M advised, this is best relegated to the gee whiz category at the tractor shows.

Hi Brent: If the second shifter by the PTO engagement lever looked like #6 below:

then it was a Ford Dearborn Live PTO Attachment, Model 23-12. This was a dealer-installed option for the NAA series.

Hope this helps..... ..... Ed

Yes, that's it exactly. Interesting gizmo. I like it. I suppose I could by an 861 for that money but I don't like them nearly as much for some reason. Of course, since I'm building a house, I don't have the money to buy either, but still, it is interesting.

If you like the Jubilee, but don't like the 861 I have to assume it's because of appearance (all that orangy paint and square grid grille, etc). If that's the case you should look for an 860, same paint scheme and overall appearance of the Jubilee (with some minor differences) but with all the good stuff. Or a 660. That would have the smaller engine, same as a Jubilee.

Sounds like an NAA with the "Live Power Take Off"* star meaning sold separately according to the Golden Jubilee brochure. They go on to say that a separate clutch stops the tractor while the pto driven machine stays under power. One full page was devoted to it. This was a factory installed option and was not a huge seller.

And you can't get parts for it. Besides, you can probably buy an 860 or 861 (5 speed with live PTO) with good tires for less than the $4500 he is asking. I did. Let some collector buy the NAA with live PTO.
