I am going to try and replace the front wheel bearings on my 8n this weekend between dove hunting. Ordered all the parts from my local Ford Tractor Dealer. Is this pretty easy to do on the front and what should I watch out for?

it's fairly easy (If you're hubs are like the 8N hubs that came on my 9N, then it's easy).

Take off the cap/covers. Pull the cotter pin holding the castle nut. remove the castle nut.
Slide entire hub off spindle axles. Remove old wrotten grease and clean guck from races. clean the bearing cup on the axle too. Look for pitted bearing cups. Mine were fine so I didn't remove them from the spindles or hub. Pack bearings with grease, slide on hub and install outer bearings. pack with grease. Replace castle nut, tighten down, then back off about 1/4 turn. Check tightness and adjust by tightening or loosening the castle nut. apply cotter pin. replace cap. you're good to go. 30 minute job.

The only thing to watch out for is tightening the hub down on to the spindle. I had about 1/4 inch gap between the rubberized dust cover/gasket retainer and the spindle itself. I was eventually able to tighen that and squeeze it after running the hubs for awhile and tighening them down once more after I ran it for around for a few minutes.

good luck dove hunting.
