2N coil problem

Hi everyone. Hope someone can give me a little help. I recently replaced the coil on a '46 2N
after I had left the key on. Additionally, I had
replaced plug wires, rotor and cap. Points looked OK. Tractor started up right away, and
ran super for about three weeks and then it shut
off as if someone shut off the key. I subsequently purchased a new coil, installed,
and the tractor took right off for about 50 feet.
Same thing again. has anyone else had problems
with bad coils? Ohms at primary approx. 1 ,
and sec. 6950 Ohms. 6.22 volts at coil, no sparky at plugs. Thanks.

Corey..... ..6.22 volts at the OEM frontmount coil is "battery voltage". This means the conductor from the coil terminal down to the ignition points is "open" and therefore you will not generate any sparkies. Most point problems are from slipping point close but they still work. In your case, I don't believe they even get a chance to work because of no electiciy.

BTW, if your distributer internals were working, you'd read about 3.5 volts due to the workings of the ballast coil. (3 min, 4.5 max). The fact that you read battery voltage means that the ballast resistor is working up to the coil terminal.

You will have to remove your frontmount distributor to find the coil spring contactor and make certain it is electrical continious down to the points..... ...Dell

I have had this apart and everything looks fine. .015 gap, good capacitance. After the tractor sets for a few hours, it will pop right off and run for 20 sec. then shut off as if you were turning the key. This is not a fuel problem, that is OK. I wonder if the condenser is breaking
down under load? Feedback anyone. Thanks.
