I have a field that I want to level for kids play. Rocks, dips, etc. A friend has had a landscape rake used on his ballfield. Can Iuse my boxscraper and do ok? thanks.

Yes, If you don't have access to a rake or just want to do it all with the box, you can. After trying every angle, I found what works best for me. First make sure its been bush hogged. the tall stuff will clog. tilt box forward a little with teeth down atleast half way. break it up well. You can move the dirt you need just by leveling box and dragging til full. then just drag it where you want it and lift slowly as moveing. To finish, lift teeth all the way up and tilt the box to the rear. This will keep it from picking up any more dirt. Then just drag till it feels good. Let us know how you do.

Dave:

I've been clearing a large field recently using both a landscape rake and a box blade. The box blade does a great job leveling, and I drop the scarifier teeth down to dig up the more stubborn roots I can't grub out.

My best results have been to grub out the scrub (lots of cedar, sumac and scrub oak here), then level the ground with the box blade, and finally to "finish" the area with the rake. Looks great when you're finished!

Good luck,

J.
