The 8N lift, in position-control mode, will correct for a fair amount of leakage. If yours is not doing so, either the control linkages need adjustment/repair or it's leaking real, real bad. Either way, you might be better served to repair the lift.

If you accidentally have it in "draft control" mode, it will leak down and not compensate, so I'd check for that before anything else.

Hi Billy: If you want to make your own limter chains, refer to the following link to a past article with the instructions by clicking on the link here: Click here to get written instructions

and refer to the two drawings below on how to make them and how to install and use them:

Don't quite understand what you are talking about. Guessing, do you have a mower that only has 2 rear wheels that you keep the front up with the lift? If so, you can get limiter chains. They are reasonably inexpensive. See one of our advertisers for these.

Claus, you are partially right I have one wheel on my mower. It is an 8-n 1950 model, but could you be alittle more specific on the advertisers thanks Billy.

There are lift arm seals. I'm not sure if you are saying fluid is leaking around the lift arms themselves or if the arms are simply drifting down.If they are just drifting down, you have a leak in the hydraulic system that might be 1. the piston and gasket with O-ring 2. An internal leak on the upper or lower gasket
3. Relief valve. I recommend a video from J&D Productions, Inc. on Hydraulic Overhaul repair and troubleshooting.

You can do an overhaul yourself for around a $100
in parts.

So solly. See Mr. Gooding's fine description above. For the non-do-it-yourselfer, these can be purchased from one of our suppliers for small chump change...

Thanks guys, all the information was alot of help, I have an item that will do the same as the chain only it will give 1/8" increments over 3/4" increments that the chain offers. I'm presently working on my First web. page.I've been looking at this forum for some time and I think it's great . I've also got a kit for the lift which will let you controll the height of mowing, box blading etc.
