A while back, someone posted a link to a circuit diagram for a low-cost converter to make 12 volts DC from 6 volts DC. I lost the link - does anyone have it handy?

Here is an application note from Linear Tech. This one is a 6V to 12V converter @ 2Amps. There are problably other application notes for different sizes.

Please look at fig. 12.

What I had in mind was a circuit for a solid-state converter which will convert 6 volts DC to 12 volts DC - like a transformer, but for DC. Some one posted a link here a few months ago for such a one that would make about 2 amps, and was made of commonly-available components. I wish I'd kept the link, but I didn't.

HERE IS A LINK FOR A 3V TO 9V CONVERTER. IT PROBABLY WOULD ALSO CONVERT 6V TO 12V.
