I just called them today and they told me i ought not to use a 6foot mower on my 8n, they told me it needs 25 hp. But i could run the 5 footer with no problem. I REALLY need some input on this from you guys, right now im running a 7foot sickle bar. I really appreciate any input on this topic. Thanks gunny

I use a 6' Woods RD7200 rear-discharge finishing mower behind my 8N with no problem at all. I mow the lawn with it set at 3-1/2" and cut a full swath. I cut a pasture 5-6 times a year when it gets about knee-high: I set the Woods to its maximum height of 7" and cut a full swath with no problem. I think the rear discharge feature takes less horsepower to throw out the clippings and also distributes them evenly behind the mower.

I just finished mowing my 5 1/2 acres of grass which has grown about 6 inches in the last week with my '52 8N and 6 foot King Kutter. I was mowing full swath and not having any trouble. I say if you have a strong engine then the 6 footer will work just fine, but if you are in need of overhaul, then you should either go with the 5 footer (not my first choice) or get the 6 footer and mow in partial swaths until you get the engine healthy again....So my advice is go with the 6 footer...

Just finished cutting my Argentine Bahia lawn here in FL with my 6' King Kutter finish mower on my 1946 2N. I have been on the road for two months and recently the drought broke here and the grass was nearly out of control! I usually use my 960 in situations like this but with rain on the forecast and mower on the 2N I hit the Hay! (lawn) the 2N pulled hard in the densest areas and had to cut 2/3's width in really thick tough Bahia but it did very well. Volume of grass was the limiting factor here, normally well watered Bahia needs to be cut every 5 days and if done so the 6' mower will work well on either 9,2 or 8N.

I use a 5 foot King Kutter finish mower with my 9n/2n. It does a satisfactory job on five acres of less than perfect lawn. I doubt that I would gamble on a 6 foot deck with my tractor, but I honestly don't know if your 8n's transmission gives you some advantages that might make it work for you. jmg

I've been running a 6 ft. Rhino finish mower for years with my 8N. Works for me.

Bought a 7' woods rear discharge mower for our 51 8N in the spring and it does great. Cuts a full swath in 3rd gear. Salesman recommended a maximum of 5'mower for the 8N. We cut 7 acres of lawn every week or so and a 5' mower would have been too slow.
