Have a friend with an alumunium hooded 9N. It has no cracks but a chip out of the hood corner. How rare is the alumunium hood. It is real tired and I plan on a full orginal restoration. Any advice would be appreciated.

Nice Find Bruce, according to a book I have, the first seven to eieght hundred 9ns made in 1939 came off of the assembly line with aluminium hoods. If the serial # of the tractor was 800 or below, it would be the "correct" hood for you tractor. The tractor was probably made in the first few weeks of 9n production. In the book titled" How To Restore Your Farm Tractor " by Robert N. Pripps, an early 9n originally fitted with the aluminum hood is shown being restored, lots of good info in there. Good luck with your project. Tom

You have definatly found a rare item. As an avid collector and hobbiest with Ford 8n. you have found a jem. My advice is to jump all over her. Many a collector will pay high dollar for the hood. It is by far worth more then the price you will pay I am sure. Good luck!!
