I have oily plugs in two of my cylinders. I'm wondering if I go to a heavier weight oil if this might relief some of the fouling problems.?I know this isn't a cure but if you have tried it let me know. thanks

Shawn, My 8N is in real dire need of a rebuild. Uses about a quart per hour unless I work it hard, then it drinks more. I am using the plug extenders and they do help unless yours is as bad as mine. I don't recomend this, but it's what I have to do until I get the spare time to tear it down, and that is, I have to run 2 1/2 quarts low on oil, or the plugs foul out within a couple minutes. And, for some goofy reason, it seems to not foul as bad when I use 5-30 oil. I can't explain that, but it seems to be working better than when I ran 30 wt. and 2 1/2 quarts low. Go figure!! Good luck!!!
Dave

Most auto parts stores will sell you spark plug extenders that fit between the head and the plug. The theory is that moving the plug out of the combustion chamber will reduce the fouling.

I've never tried them, but it's a cheap fix if it works. You already know the alternative$.

Shawn.....Unfortunately, changing to a heavy weight oil does not solve sparkplug oil fouling. The quick and eazy cure is to us a "hotter" sparkplug which will essentually "burn" off the oil, which is being pumped up by the worn out piston rings. The real cure is an "overhaul". For example used to be, Champion H-10 was factory plug for N-Tractor, the hotter Champion would be H-12. There has been many improvements in sparkplug design since the design of the flathead N-Engine. Its been years since I changed sparkplugs in my 8N, but if I remember correctly, I'm using NGK BP6-ES. Hope this helps..... .Dell
