My 2n has steam coming out the exhaust. There isn't any water leaking except in the exhaust. Is
this usually a cracked block or is there a seal
or gasket that could be bad? I checked the radiator a couple of hours later and it was low
on water, but was holding pressure when I took the cap off.

Thanks for any help, I'm pretty much a novice. Bill

Most likely a blown head gasket. You should make sure that all the bolt holes are clean and retap them if necessary before reinstalling the head or if it still has the studs in the block be extra careful to remove all the residue from the old head gasket etc.
Personally I have never seen a cracked head on an N engine and have never had one milled and I have done at least a hundred over the years. Did see one broken on top from being froozen years ago.
I have a friend who works in an automotive machine shop and he milles every head that comes into the shop. He isn't partial and I am always scolding him about ripping off people and ruining their heads. He just tells me he is trying to make a living.

In a case like this there's a good chance you have a bad head gasket or cracked head, pull the head off and take a look see, send the head to your local machine shop and have them check it for cracks, install with a new head gasket and see what happens.

later,dave
