Is this a correct statement: a live pto is associated with a 2 stage clutch. Old tractors such as 9n,2n and 8ns do not have a live pto.

Thanks

An equipment dealer tried to sell me a TO 30 with a live pto .I told him a TO 30 didn't have a live pto. His reply was yes they do (he depressed the clutch and the pto stopped). I checked the clutch is was a single stage .After more complete B.S. I walked away. Moral of the story: an education fron the N Board is worth more than money.

Thanks

Bill Mc

For the later (post 8N) 4-cylinder Fords, it is true that if you have live PTO, you have a two-stage clutch.

Other brands/models of tractors have different implementations that do not have a two stage clutch.

Are there not some PTO's that are completly independent of clutch function? (JD hydrostatic comes to mind)
