Just rolled a 9N off the trailer into the garage. Picked it up with the sheet metal all off the front and the head off in a plastic bag, all covered with grease. When I loaded it on the trailer it had an old Igloo lid sitting on the block. Must have done some good, as the cylinders are smooth and clean--sleeves look almost new. Oil was correct level and new looking, and when I dropped oil just now, there was no water in pan.

Biggest part of my post is this: glad I found this forum and you'll probably see plenty of dumb questions!

Just wanted to say also that I'm not restoring the thing in the sense of complete teardown and all, my goal is to get it running and make some money, buy another one and do the complete teardown on IT, and when I get it ready to work, do this one.

Looking forward to learning from y'all

Hey Bill welcome to the site.
This is the best site on the whole internet as far as I'm concerned.
One suggestion though: Pick "Bill On the Hill" or "Bill #1" or The 9N Will or some such.
There's about eleven Bills and bills around here and a couple of them you probably wont want to be confused with.

In 1996 I was fortunate enough to find a 1949 8N is excellent working condition (and I mean that because I'm not trying to sell it!). It wasn't until about 2 years ago that I found this site and I wish I had found it earlier.

Great source of info and fun. Once you get to know the regulars you'll like it even more. Watch for ZANE (read his stuff closely), Dell (the guru), bg (knows it all), Evil Steve (and his Chigger), ED-IL, Willy-N (and his pics), Dave Smith (cause someday you'll nedd an N button), and Ed Gooding VA (more 8N-related pictures than you can shake a stick at). Many more, but that's a start.

Welcome to the wonderful world of N. One thing I've noticed about this forum, is that it has a LOT of activity. It is great to see that people still care about these old tractors and want to help others with their questions. They have been a great source of information to me on restoring an 8N. Hope you enjoy your N.

Bill, get you some Marvel Mystery Oil and put a couple of tablespoons in each cylinder before you move anything. Let it set for a day or two to let the oil soak the rings, pistons and cylenders. Also go to a Ford/New Holland Tractor place and get a manual for the tractor as it has all the info almost you will need. The rest of the info you need you will find on this forum. They are the best. A bit grumpy at times...but they know there stuff...Jimbo...Tyler TX
