Thought it was a Howard but not sure now! It dose not have Howard on it anywhere. The name on it is Rotary Hoes of Eangland LTD, Reduction Gear, East Horndon Essex England. Interesting unit removed it tonight just had to see what it looked like. Bolts to the back of the transmission case and couples to the rear differential with a custom coupler and PTO shifter. No where dose it say Howard and being made in England, I thought the Howard Rotovators were made in the USA. Need to research it some more now. Mark H.

I have a working Howard and the rotovator that it was meant to work with. No where does it say "Howard" on it only "RotaryHoes" and the other info about Essex England. I've posted other info about it before. I've never had it out of the trans so Idon't know what it looks like beyond the round cover with the lever. Thanks for displaying that, Iwas very curious. From what I see of the gears, they don't look too hard to duplicate. Perhaps any machine shop with gear cutting capacity could make new ones. And probably from a better grade of steel. I'm not sure about how fragile they are as my machine was not given the best of care and they survived. I think what wiped out many Howards was someone using the extra low speeds to pull stumps or somesuch tasks, thinking this thing really has power being geared down so far. As far as I know, mine has only had the normal usage of driving the rototiller which is what it was designed to do. Just my $.02 Rich
PS Anybody have a coupler/connector for the Rotovator?

Rich..... ....little history about Howard aux gearboxs gears. Back in 1997-8, some fellow in Oregon had the same idea, modern metals and CNC tooling. Couldn't swing the $10,000+ finances or generate enuff interest from the N-Tractor community to put together a project. Gear manufacturer wanted 100 parts min order. Finally gave up on it. And sorry, I don't remember the fellows name..... ....Dell

This is what I found on the net. They are the same Howard and Rotary Hoes LTD. Here is a copy of what I found;
Howard invented a number of different models of rotary hoe cultivators, patenting one in 1919. In 1922 he formed Austral Auto Cultivators Pty Ltd, building various models and designing in 1927 a tractor to work with rotary hoes, leading to the first large-scale production of tractors in Australia. The firm later became known as Howard Auto Cultivators. In 1938 he moved to England and founded Rotary Hoes Ltd, which received the Queen's award to industry in 1966. Mark H.
