Hi, I have a '42 Ford 9N tractor that I want to add a finish mower to...I'm looking at the Farm King 72" finish mower, which requires 20-40 hp and I'm not sure of the horsepower on the 9N. Will my faithful old Ford handle a 6' mower??
Thanks,
Mark

i ran a 6 foot finish mower on my 46 2N . it cost me over 1200.oo to have the engine rebuilt! the maximum mower size for any 9n2n8n is 5 foot. they don't have the hp to run 6 ft

6' rear discharge is my choice. Your only going to buy once.

Mark, I run a Woods RD7200 6' rear discharge finish mower behind my 8N. I mow every other weekend, and power has never been a problem. I live near Michigan, so our grasses and growing pattern should be similar. I like the 6' deck because it is slighly wider than my tires, and I like the rear discharge because it spreads the grass out more evenly. Philip.

Depending on the length of the grass, it should. Most prefer a 5' deck since it is the same width as the rear tires. Then you know if it misses the tires it will miss the deck - good for mowing around trees and fences since you really won't be able to see the mower edge from the driver's seat.

My 46 2N loves it's King Kutter 60" mower. I can cut 3-1/2 acres in three hours. It used to take me 21 hours on my 38" riding mower.

Thanks Ed.....Maybe the 60" would be a better choice. Im cutting 4 acres with a sears 48" mower. It takes many hours since its my cottage and its not cut as often as I like. Any feeling on the side discharge vs rear discharge?

Rear is nice, I hear but a little more expensive. Mine side discharges on the left and does fine.

Mark, I have used my 9N and my 8N both with 6 foot finish mowers. No problem unless you let it get too high. I mowed once a week. The 8N definatly works better. The 9N is too slow in second gear and too fast in third. The 8N works great in third gear. Unless you like to rake up the clippings get a rear discharge. The 6 foot side discharge leaves the clippings in a wind row.
