Kim,The archive search engine is fine, BUT... The person who developed it had to have had newer grey matter than I do. Having increasing CRS as time goes by, I find that I remember things in general but not the details. To effectively use a search engine, often requires remembering a pertenent detail to limit the search. The current search engine cut off of 100 ignores the fact that the N-Board is up over 14K postings. If you insert carborator you miss the postings that use carb instead of the full spelling. Carb gets postings that have nothing to do with carborators and exceeds the 100 limit. It's VERY disconcerting to remember some good post in the past that has dropped off the bottom of the current list and not be able to find it because you can't remember what other words to use in the search engine to have it come up. THUS, I wish you would PLEASE, for us old guys with CRS, return the archives. Keep the search engine, just reinstate the old style archive. One thing that could be done to improve the archive listing would be to allow the selection of dates between which date of the primary post in any thread would be the selection criteria. The selected primary posts and the follow-ons for them would then be displayed. I do quite well at scanning lists looking for "hits" where reading the title will trigger the "rest" of my memory. I would also think that you (someone) should consider allowing the current search engine to display the next 100 posts when there are over 100 meeting the selection criteria. Posts with very relevant information can be over 100 posts apart and thus one will be missed. The search engine is a very useful tool. BUT each tool has it's strengths and weaknesses. You would never ask a mechanic to use just wrenches or just hammers. The same is true in the computer world. One method is not the "end all be all". Thanks for reading my request, I hope you will look favorably on it and meet it.
