My 45' 2N is leaking hydraulic fluid from where the axle tube connects to the gear box. Is there anything I should be watching out for when I change the gasket? Is there anything else I might want to do while I've got it opened up that far?
It runs great, the hydraulics work fine and it's not leaking into the brakes (not yet, anyhow).

Thanks for any help,
Mark Welzel

Mark, it is not that bad, mostly grunt work as the axle housing is heavy. Before you start, put the nose low or drain the hydraulic fluid(it also lubes the rear end). If your rear wheels are full of liquid they can be quite a handful also. After you remove the wheel and disc it is just a matter of loosening the 11 or 12(CRS) nuts at the housing and removing the trumpet, axle, and drum together. They are I repeat very heavy toegether so if you can I would advise getting some help. If it is the left side, be careful you don't drop this on your toes

as it is quite heavy also.
Clean off all the old gasket good from both surfaces before installing new one. While you are in there you might want to make sure that both of these

the lower link pins are tight.
Hope this helps.

Good advise re: the lower link pins. They have a propensity to come loose and leak. I would probably go one step further and take off the lower link pin, put on a new gasket with sealer, and re-tighten the casle nut. I forgoet which side allows you to do this, but when you take off one axle trumpet, you can reach thru to the other axle trumpet and re-new the lower link seal on that side without removing the axle trumpet.
