I have a problem with a sticky brake pedal on the left side of my 2N. The petal is binding and won't spring back up on its own, it will come back up by hand and stay up. I am trying to pull the brake drum, the tire is off but I am not sure how to get the drum off.

Any input as to why the pedal is sticking and or how to get the drum off will be helpful. Thanks.

Before you get to pulling it all apart - try flushing the brake shaft pivot (in the axle extension) and the pivot in the brake backing plate with something like brake cleaner, then oiling same. These pivots are naked to the world and seldom lubed, and will often gum up to the point of jamming the brake shaft.

If that don't work, I'm afraid I have to tell you that you can't just pull the drum - it ain't made that way. You have to remove the drum, bearing carrier and half-shaft as a unit. Remove the six nuts and studs which attach the bearing carrier to the axle extension - inboard of the brake drum - and pull the whole assembly off outwards. It weighs a hundred pounds or more and will be a slick and oily mess. You can then set this down and pull the brake assembly, brake plate and shaft up and off. Sounds easy when you read it, don't it?
