Scott,

I have a WM4 Wagner Loader on my 41 9N. I haven't changed all the fluid yet, but I believe the capacity is 5.0 gallons. I keep mine filled up to about half way up the tubes coming up to the top. The fill tube is about 2/3 the way up the tube. I understand some types of loaders have a stand pipe on the opposite tube, a little lower than the fill tube, and that is a correct level. My Wagner doesn't have that. There are small little pi$$ holes at the very tops of the tubes, so obviously you don't want to fill that high. As far as draining, I have no problem because of two leaks at the bottom where it mounts to the fender mounts. Seriously, the lowest place to drain the system seems to be at the front hydraulic pump. Mine has a steel fitting there that has a drain plug. You should be able to tell when you are running the fluid too low. The loader will lift slowly. When you add fluid, the performance will be better. After adding up to a certain amount of fluid, it won't lift any different. My loader doesn't lose performance until the level of fluid is only about six inches above the pump. I measure the level of my fluid by sticking a stiff piece of wire down the fill tube, and measuring it like an oil dipstick.

Good Luck

Scott Nice looking loader you got there. I notice you have double acting pistons on the lift arms. I'm interested in updating mine and was wondering what brand and model they were?? I think my loader is a Wagner (not sure which???) See link to my previous note....Sorry you'll need to paste this into the address field above.

I'm not sure the specs at the moment. I'll Look tomorrow and post. They were replaced on the loader right before I bought the tractor. This tractor is in great running shape. Have a 54 NAA in the shed I'm working on too. The pistons seem a little oversize, so it tends to lift a little slower than I'd like, but Boy can it lift.

I hope to get my set-up/converted this next summer along with a new front hydraulic "vane" type pump in the spring. It never ends does it!! I would like the down pressure so I can take some weight off the front when backing up and not have the rear tires spin as much while back blading. How does yours work, other than slow speed? Does it lift the front up a little if you hold the control forward?

"my toy" has a wagner as well, doesn't appear to be the same model type tho. My lift arms are straighter. I definately don't have those rams! It needs some work (leaks around the pump)but it does function well. I can lift the front just a bit, enough to take the weight off it. I try to check the fluid level prior to use, usually keeping it level w/the bottom of the fill hole. Is this correct? Don't know, i figure its gonna leak out w/use. Haven't had any problems. Maybe i've just been lucky.

That is the same way I guage filling it. When it is topped off and you drop the load fast it will somretimes blow a little out the vent hole at top but nothing major ...would say your doing it right. Sure wish I knew the exact model of mine so I could order the right manual from N-News. All tags are missing???

Mine may look different from yours because I've added some steel to the arms to beef it up some.
