I'm bad at taking advice of self proclaimed experts (always trying to learn something new) My latest advice from one "in the know" was to soak my carburetor cast halves in muratic acid for a couple of days to "boil all the crud out." A couple of months ago I did this on the #1 8n. I finished out the carb with air blowout, the usual rebuild kit and new float. In using it over the weekend to move some of the equipment around with the #3 8n I just got, it began running badly and wouldn't go at all without the choke on and off. I knew it had to be carb problems. I dismanteled the carb and much to my dismay found at least a teaspoon of various crud in the bowl. Apparently the muratic acid effects didn't stop after I put it back to use. Anyway, long story short, I called my trusted friend at the auto garage and he agreed to bead blast the two stripped cast halves for $7.50. I also put a very very light coating of rust seal over inside reachable places. Slight problem with the gasket between halves. Can't buy it alone locally, so I just made one. I have put 'er back together and await try-out tomorrow. Folks, ferget the muratic acid bath for carbs. Blast it for best results, but air blow everything out good before reassembly. Good N-ing.

I used this stuff called Gunk Carburator cleaner and soaked mine overnight. Worked like a charm. Cleanest carb I own.
