I got my 8N stuck and in the course of getting it out,I heard a loud pop under my feet. Since then the tractor will run but when I depress the clutch it doesn't disengage the transmission. Does this mean the clutch needs replacing or is there a bearing that could have spun. Would the wise thing be to overhaul the entire clutch assembly? Thanks

Before breaking the tractor in half and replacing everything in the clutch, look at the exterior linkage. The link that is fastened externally with a cold roll pin to the throwout shaft going into the case has been known to crack or break, on the bottom side. When the clutch pedal is released the crack may not be readily visible. Block the wheels and with engine OFF. Have someone depress the pedal while you are down looking at that link. This is from a similar experience that I had. After replacing the entire clutch I still had the same problem. That was when a Ford mechanic told me about the link. I bought a link from a bone yard because new was so expensive. I still have that old part laying on the shelf as a reminder.

Huck..... ....this is to confirm what you already suspected, ya broke somethin' innna yer clutch anna yer gonna hafta split yer tractor to fixitt. Get out yer trusty I&T FO-4 repair manual for instructions on how to split yer tractor. Only visual inspection will tell ya what parts ya trashed. Probably yer clutch throwout bearing fork..... ...Dell

I am not a Ford expert, but my guess with what you describe is you put the throwout bearing through the pressure plate. But this is just a guess.
