Lift only works for a while

The lift on my 8n works great for about the first 30 min. Then it gradually gets weaker and weaker to the point it will only lift an inch or two. The hyd. sleeve and pison are new and it does not bleed down once it is lifted, even after the lift is weak and only gets it a little off the ground. I am wondering if the fluid is getting warmer (therefor thinner) and leaking by the relief valve or the pump isn't building pressure when the fluid thins out. The fluid is new and is specifically for Ford hyd/transmissions. It was doing the same thing before I changed the fluid and put in a new sleeve and cylinder. But at least now it doesn't bleed down like it used to. Advice would be appreciated.

Depending what climate you live in. Modern type tractor fluid does not work well in Fordns. Unless you live up north where the weather is cold alot, your tractor should have 80/90 GL-5 or 90 weight mineral oil in the lift.

Hi Joe,
Take a look at the post yesterday by Mike named "Hydraulics" and check out the link in the reply by Ed.
I had a problem similar to yours on my 8N. My lift would not raise by itself, but would stay up if you raised it by hand. The nightmare I went through is too long to relate here. After much pain and trouble, I discovered that all it needed was adjusting the lever adjustment located under the lift plate. Lesson I learned was look for the easy things first. Good luck.

Joe,

I would suspect the pump or maybe the relief valve at this point.

I know there are a couple or more people that would know for sure... perhaps Zane or Dell. Watch for them and send them email.

Best of luck!
