I took carb off, apart, cleaned and re-assembled on my 8N. It runs good, but after killing engine and letting it sit, the whole outside of carb is wet with gas. Does the float need re-adjusting? Seems not to leak when it's running.

I've got the same problem only it appears that the gas leaks into the air cleaner side of the intake, it then works its way from there to the bottom of the carb. I've tried adjusting the float several times but it seems I'm either starving the engine for fuel or I have the leak. Do you think 1/32cnd of an inch is that critical on float adjustment or could it be something else?

I share your pain!

I would check to make sure the float doesn't have a hole in it. After that, put in a new needle valve and seat and adjust to specs.

so, when you adjust the float do you adjust with the gasket in place or not ????

F O 4 manual calls for 1/4 inch from lowest point of float to gasket surface. If you get that close it probably doesn't matter

couple of ideas:
does just shutting off the gas cure the problem? If so it probably ain't broke.
Your can buy just a needle and seat and a gasket set for less than ten buckos. If you go that way make sure the float floats and I find it easier to set the float with a quarter inch drill bit.

Your mileage may vary

I had the same problem off and on for about a year. On the suggestion from someone at this board, I set the float with a 9/32 inch drill bit. This gives just a little more force to the needle and seat. It has not leaked since. But as some others on the board would say "If the parts are in good shape and adjusted correctly, then it should not leak." Who am I to argue

If the gas continues to leak out of the carb than the float is sticking..Mine did this before and I tapped the outside of the carb with a mallet..It stopped and by luck it never did it again..Sounds like you may need to adjust yours.
