Among the people using this forum, who has had their N tractor the longest? I think this makes an interesting question. We have a 1950 8N we purchased in the fall of 1969 for $530.00, tax included. It had about 15 hours on a major overhaul. Other than points, plugs, tires, and a muffler, it has needed no major repair. It still doesn't use any oil. We use it for dirt work, blading snow, mowing the pasture, and pulling trailers, and dozen of other uses. I might add, my wife claims it as her tractor! Don

I bought my first 8N in 1982, for $1500.00. It had a Funk 6 cyl.then. I am restoring this tractor, and it will have the 4 banger in it. My second one I bought about 3 years ago, as a parts tractor, for $500.00. It was all complete except for carb and right rear wheel and tire. It is now my work horse, and needs the engine rebuilt, but has never failed me. Keeps the mosquitoes away too!!! I plan to rebuild the engine and some other stuff this winter. Funny how, when you finally have just about enough money to do a project, something else comes along to take your play money.

I have a 1944 2N that dad bought new in may of 44 when I was 7 month old, sadley Dad passed away about 9 year ago, I still have the orignal plow, 2-12", dealer had brought out a 2-14" with tractor, put it on and started to plow, took it back and brought the 12", 14" was too much in our ground. Over the years it has done every thing, Plow, disk, harrow, plant, cultivate, mow, rake, bale, Combine on PTO. corn picker, forage harvester, load and haul manure, plow snow and more. It is now on either its 4'th or 5'th set of rear tires.

If your grandpa drove your dad's tractor and you have taken grandkids for a ride, then I count 5 generations. Every once in awhile I hear about a tractor that has been driven or riden by five generations. In just a few more years there will be six generation 9Ns, H Farmalls and B John Deeres on a few farms around the country. These old family tractors are priceless. Mike-Iowa

Ownership???
As old as these tractors are getting, now they are what up to 3 or 4 generations - seems like we are more caretakers, not owners, sort of like trying to 'own' land.

I sure that some 9N or 2N owner has had it a long time. If it was the last 2N it would be about 54 years and go up from there with each year older tractor. For myself, I count the years that I have been driving our 1951 8N. My father purchased it used in 1953, I was ten and started plowing with it that year.
My father died in 1968 and I "inherited" the tools including the 8N. So, if 1953 is the date, I have owned it 48 years. If 1968 is the date, I have owned it 33 years.
This 8N, with Sherman step up/step down, is on it's third overhaul, third set of tires (rears are loaded) 2nd set of rear end gears and is about to start the 4th generation of drivers. My oldest grandson will be 8 in December.
"That's my story, and I'm sticken to it!"

I think this question has come up before, but will ask it again. Is there a way to find original owner information based on serial number?

My girlfriend (now wife) purchased my 51 for me in 1989. Used it for 3 years, then complete motor rebuild, added 12V/altenator, spin on oil filter, rebuilt the rear axles/brakes this year. Needs front end tightened up now. Works without complaint year round.
