The hood for my 8N has some rust holes in the molded belt line. Nothing too bad but I would like to cut it out and weld in new metal and get the rust out from between the sheet metal and the inner frame. Has anyone ever removed the inner frame then got it back in without problems. I would use a spot weld cutter to drill out the spot welds.

I haven't done that particular job but I have welded in a lot of patch panels. Just go slow, take it easy and control the heat with staggered short welds and give them time to cool. A MIG welder works best. If you use oxy acetylene use a “heat dam” to reduce warpage.

It's not the welding of the patch that conserns me. I can do that no problem. It's getting the inner frame out to get at the rust between it and the sheet metal and to get a good rust preventive paint between them.
