Loader hydraulic valve problem

I have a dearborne loader on a 2N. It suddenly will not dump. Everything else works fine. The lever seems to jam before it triggers the pressure release. It also seems like it does not want to return to the neutral position. I checked the archives and didn't see anything direclty related.

I have never had the control lever/valve unit apart. It has two large hex nut type covers on the end of control housing that face forward. I think I was told at one time that they were adjustment points. I am tempted to back the one out (top)that controls the bucket operation to see if there is something jamming the operating rod. Since I do not have any kind of diagram showing what is inside the unit I am reluctant to take the cover off.

Does anyone know what this unit looks like inside or where I might be able to locate a diagram showing the insides? Also is it possible that it has vibrated out of adjustment? If so, is adjust just by trial and error by screwing the cover in and out?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I think that you may have a broken return spring in the control valve or that some foriegn material has gotten lodged in the spool of the control valve.

Take the pin out of the lever where it attaches to the control valve spool that moves when you move the lever. Turn the cover with the hex head all the way off the control valve. This where the return spring is going to be. After the end is screwed off you should be able to push the control valve spool all the way out of the valve housing. It will have an O ring on both ends of the housing where the spool is sealed from the oil escaping to the outside. The whole thing is pretty simple actually. If the spool will not come out with some light blows with a hammer or mallet etc. you may have to remove the oil lines to that side of the valve to see if something has traveled to the spool and is keeping it from coming out of the housing.

Thanks. After I took the cover off, I found that the nut that holds the spring in place backed off and had everything pretty jambed up. As you noted, its a pretty simple mechanism. Again , Thanks alot.
