I pulled the lift cover last night thinking that I needed to replace yet another Ram Piston on my 2N for hydraulic failure. When I removed the inspection cover and tried to lift I saw fluid pouring from the cylinder. It turns out that I blew out the paper gasket between the ram cylinder and the lift cover where the fluid enters the ram cylinder. There was about a 1 inch piece missing around the fluid opening.
Does this mean I didn't torque it down properly?

Suggest that before you put things back together, put a straight edge on that part of the lift cover and the housing to make sure things are straight and flat. Also, did you use sealer ? My $.02

On my Jubilee I was told to NOT use gasket sealer on the gasket around the port as it will act as a lubricant when the pressure is applied to "force" the gasket out. I put mine on dry and it is fine.
